Marketing Survival Guide

Trends that stick and tactics to skip – marketing in 2025 with PDC’s expertise

It’s been another fast-paced year of marketing trends coming and going – and honestly it feels like just yesterday that we were listing out the buzzing digital marketing strategies for 2024! With all the innovation and change, it can be tough to know what’s worth embracing and what’s best left behind – that’s why we’ve pulled together our forecast of marketing trends and strategies for 2025.

This is PDC’s ins and outs for 2025: what we’ll see more of, what we want to champion, and (with all due respect!) what we think needs to stay firmly in 2024. If you’re looking to stay competitive and connect meaningfully with your audience, consider this your starter guide!

What’s in for 2025?

Keywords that work
This shouldn’t surprise anyone. SEO remains the backbone of online visibility, but in 2025, businesses need to move beyond stuffing keywords into content and instead embrace strategy and research. This means identifying terms that your audience genuinely searches for and is using naturally across your digital platforms. Think conversational keywords, local search phrases, and long-tail terms that cater to customer queries.

Authenticity for the win
Consumers are getting savvier, and are starting to spot inauthentic content from a mile away. Against a digital world crammed with sloppy generative-AI content, genuine stories, transparent practices, and honest communication are quickly becoming what audiences crave. Think about how you can add value for your customers and clients, showcase your brand’s values, and don’t be afraid to show some personality.

Long-form content = real value
While bite-sized content absolutely still has its place, long-form content is making a strong comeback (hey, you’re still reading right?). Blogs, detailed guides, even livestreams allow businesses to dive deeper into topics, showcase their expertise, and provide real value. Google loves it, and so do readers looking for actual solutions – and the best part? Your long-form content can be broken up into smaller chunks for social media and used in email marketing! Talk about working smarter.

Creating a lasting impact
Quick wins are cool, but sustainable success is something to really celebrate. In 2025, think about strategies that prioritise long-term relationships with clients and customers: invest in campaigns that foster meaningful connections, create awesome customer experiences, and simply follow-up. The goal should always be to make your brand unforgettable.

Brand consistency
I think inconsistent branding might be my pet peeve – especially after seeing it way too much in 2024 and knowing what an impact it makes. Inconsistent branding confuses customers and dilutes your message. How are you supposed to resonate with your target audience if they’re not sure who you are? Cohesive branding strengthens that recognition and shows that your business is professional and trustworthy. From your website to your social media, in 2025 we’re making sure every piece of content aligns with your brand identity.

What’s out for 2025?

Bad branding
Continuing my earlier rant about consistency, strong branding is the foundation of every successful marketing effort you make. You can’t deny that first impressions matter, right? Poorly-designed logos, mismatched and outdated colour schemes, or amateur visuals aren’t helping you cut through the noise – in fact, they’re likely to drive potential customers straight to your prettier competitors.

Generic AI material
Yes, AI is a powerful tool, but relying on it to churn out cookie-cutter content simply won’t cut it. I could write a whole blog about this (maybe I should, I’ve heard long-form content is in after all!), but generic Chat GPT captions on your post and copy on your website aren’t fooling anyone in 2025. Audiences are looking for personalized, thoughtful material that reflects your brand’s voice and values, so make sure you’re using AI as a tool, not a crutch.

One-size-fits-all approaches
Every business is different – and so are its customers, which is why what works for some won’t necessarily work for others. Personalising your marketing is a must for 2025. Start by looking at previous marketing efforts and see what’s been successful and why. It pays to know your customers too – what they like and how they behave. Then you’ve got the ammo to create campaigns that speak directly to them.

Ignoring SEO is a no-no
Sure, maybe you’ve already got a website, but sadly SEO isn’t something you can just “set and forget” – it’s an ongoing process! Neglecting SEO means missing out on valuable organic traffic and falling behind your competitors, which is why it pays to regularly update your site with fresh content and relevant keywords. Also, try keep an eye on changes in search engine algorithms, like the recent Google SGE rollout, and adjust your strategy accordingly, (hey, if that all sounds like too much work, just pay us to do it!).
